Room to Work, and a Lot to Haul

Tree Service in Strongsville is different from the inner-ring suburbs closer to Cleveland. The city covers about 24.6 square miles of land, more than most of its neighbors, and many homes back onto woods, ravines or Cleveland Metroparks land. That usually means more room to set up equipment and a better chance of felling a tree in one piece. It also means more wood and brush, and right now Strongsville's curbside brush chipping is suspended.

Where your brush goes

With chipping on hold, the city's Service Department lists two options: take brush to the city transfer station, or cut branches into 4-foot bundles weighing no more than 50 pounds and set them out for Republic Waste on your regular trash day. That works for a weekend of pruning. It does not work for a full removal, which can produce dozens of bundles and logs too heavy to lift. On our jobs, brush is chipped on site and hauled with the wood unless you ask us to leave chips or firewood. Your written estimate says which.

The Rocky River and the reservation

The East Branch of the Rocky River enters Strongsville from North Royalton and leaves into Berea, with Valley Parkway following its course. Cleveland Metroparks' Mill Stream Run Reservation runs along that river, including Bonnie Park and Ranger Lake. In Bonnie Park, the dam and foundation of the area's first mill, built in 1820, still remain. Homes near the reservation tend to have wooded back lots, slopes toward the valley and trees that grew up in a forest setting: tall, with small crowns high up and few low limbs. When the woods around such a tree are thinned for a house or yard, it is suddenly exposed to wind it never had to handle.

City trees and the cost-share program

The Service Department's Division of Forestry is responsible for all city-owned trees and monitors planting, pruning and removal on public property, including tree lawns. If you want a new street tree, the city runs a cost-share program: for 2026, a 1 3/4-inch caliper tree planted in your tree lawn for $155, with spring orders due by February 20. Approved species come from the city's street tree list. If a tree lawn tree is the problem, call the city (440-580-3100) rather than a private crew.

Typical Strongsville work

1. Removing trees on the edge of wooded lots that lean toward the house or deck 2. Clearing dead ash out of backyard woods before it falls on a fence or shed 3. Raising and thinning crowns of large oaks and maples to let light reach the lawn 4. Grinding stumps left from builder clearing or old removals 5. Storm cleanup after summer wind or heavy snow

Strongsville Questions

Will Strongsville pick up the branches from my tree removal?

Curbside chipping is suspended. You can bundle branches into 4-foot, 50-pound bundles for Republic on trash day or take them to the transfer station. For a full removal, it is far easier to have the brush chipped and hauled as part of the job.

How do I get a new tree for my tree lawn?

Use the city's street tree cost-share program. For 2026 it was $155 for a 1 3/4-inch caliper tree, ordered by February 20 for spring planting.

My lot backs up to the reservation. Can you remove a tree on the property line?

We can remove trees on your property. If a tree may be on Metroparks land, confirm the line first; we will not cut a tree that is not yours.

Why did a tree at the edge of my woods fall when it looked healthy?

Trees that grew inside a forest rely on their neighbors for shelter. When surrounding trees are cleared, the exposed ones face full wind for the first time and can fail even without decay.
